Homers Fly Against Mariners In 7-2 Loss

The Mariners had their first test against the Red Sox and managed to not be swept. However, in their first cross-country test against the New York Yankees, the Mariners found themselves in a hole fast. The Yankees would go on to win 7-2. This would be pitcher Marco Gonzales’ first loss in five weeks.

4 different Yankees would hit home runs in the series opener. Yankees’ Andújar and Hicks would each drive in an RBI.

Mariner Nelson Cruz would add another home run to his tally. Cruz is 10th in the MLB for total home runs at 18.

This is the Mariners’ eighth loss in 30 games. The Mariners find themselves in a 10-game road trip facing two potential playoff teams. The Mariners are still battling for their division title, and still have an eight game lead on the Anaheim Angels for a wild card slot.
