Mariners snap 5-game losing streak

Things may be starting to turn around for the Mariners as they have snapped a 5-game losing streak. Mike Leake kept Boston scoreless for eight innings as the Mariners win 7-2.

The win couldn’t come at a better time. The Mariners are 3.5 games behind the Astros and are looking to take back control of the American League West. Seattle still holds a 6-game lead on the Angels for the second Wild Card slot. But with half the season remaining, every win still counts.

Seattle was on the brink of pitching a shut-out. But with closer Edwin Diaz needing to get some time on the mound, skipper Scott Servais pulled Leake in the ninth.

There were no home runs in this contest. But Seattle was able to put up 7 runs before Boston could score. The last time Seattle did not have a home run was June 14 against the Red Sox in Seattle.

Seattle has one more game against the Red Sox before traveling to Baltimore. A win will close the gap to 3 games behind for the first Wild Card seed.
